Long Legs:

Purple and Orange Harvestmen taken March 28, 2009 on the Waterfall hike in the White Tanks. http://www.maricopa.gov/PARKS/WHITE_TANK/HIKING.ASPX

Take note of the sign... “AREA CLOSED; POISONOUS SNAKES AND INSECTS INHABIT THE AREA” We were unsure if the snakes and insects could read and knew to stay behind the sign...

According to Dr. Jerome Rovner at Ohio University, this is NOT a spider! His exact e-mail was: “Not a spider, it's a harvestman--often commonly called a daddy-long-legs.  However, not all members of this group of arachnids have very long legs. These arachnids differ from spiders in three ways:  having a one-part body (front and back parts have fused); no silk production; and (of concern to you) no venom glands or fangs.  Learn more at: http://www.backyardnature.net/longlegs.htm

You can see a shorter-legged harvestman like yours (but not as colorful as yours), at:
